January 1, 2017 was a few days ago, and with each new year, many of us start thinking about creating a new version (a better version) of ourselves for that new year. Ideas for resolutions start popping up everywhere because we want to make this year better than last year, and the best way to try and do that is by doing something different. Because, after all, the only sure fire way to keep things the way they were last year is by not changing a thing, so if your intention is to become a better version of yourself then change is something that you need to do.
And change can seem scary. If you keep doing something for the same way over and over again then you start to get used to it. You get comfortable, which is a good place to be. But if you find yourself too comfortable to the point that you’re no longer getting joy out of the things that you used to get joy out of then it may be time for a change.
And the reason why change is scary is because you don’t know what can come of that change. It may be your intention to get one thing out of it, but if it doesn’t end up working out in your favor then that thing that you once wanted may not even happen right away. But the question you need to ask yourself is, “Would I rather stay in this comfortable life where I no longer find joy, or would I rather get a life that I’m happy with even if it causes me a little bit of pain or ends up taking longer than I expected it to?” If you are okay with living that comfortable life then go ahead and keep on living it, but if you want something more then go for that change.
And if you are having problems making that decision, try taking a few moments to look back over your life. You’ve made changes in your life before. Some of those changes you didn’t want to have happen, but there are definitely changes that you decided that you were going to make because you wanted something better for yourself. I want you to examine the latter. How did that go for you in the past? Did you go through some heartache to get there? Chances are that you did. Was it as easy as you thought it was going to be? Probably not. But did you end up happier for it in the end? Sometimes you need to go through a little bit of pain to get to where you need to be. Just think about all of those people who spend time working out and going to the gym. They push their bodies until they are physically exhausted. Their muscles ache and they feel worn out afterward, but the results that they get are worth the pain that they have to go through. They end up with bodies that are toned and fit and insides that are healthy, so the pain is indeed worth it for them.
Positive thinker, it’s great if you want to change yourself for the new year, but the thing is, you don’t have to wait until January 1st to make the decision to be a better version of yourself. Sometimes people get so wrapped up with New Year’s resolutions that they forget that they have the power to change any time that they want to. There are 364 other days in the year that you can make the decision to change. So if you want to be a better person then do it. You should always be striving to make yourself better in your own eyes. Make a list, and write down realistic goals that can lead you to becoming a better version of yourself. If you want to stop cursing don’t just think that you’re going to wake up one day and not curse anymore. Make a goal to only curse when you absolutely have to or decide to cut your daily cursing in half and then once you’ve mastered that then cut that in half and keep cutting it in half until you don’t curse anymore. You don’t want to set yourself up to fail, so making realistic goals that can lead up to the big goal that you want to accomplish is what you may need to do.
So in this new year, I want you to go out and make changes to better yourself. I want you to achieve those goals that you set out for yourself. But I also want you to remember to keep on pushing through even if that road to betterment gets a bit tough.
The pain that you may go through is going to justify the reward!
So keep moving forward and keep working towards your dreams!
