STUDY: DEPRESSION SEEN IN CHILDREN AS YOUNG AS 3

PARENTS TAKE NOTE!

Depression doesn’t seem too positive. It’s actually pretty sad to find that children as young as three years old may have to deal with an illness as debilitating as Depression.

However, I have always been a firm believer that knowledge is power. Therefore, I am of the opinion that it is a positive thing that such studies are being conducted. It will allow for better funding of research on the treatment of children suffering with depression. It will also hopefully bring more awareness of such issues to the mainstream public as well as the school systems that may be the first line of defense in recognizing a child’s depression and effectively treating it.

That being said, if your child is highly irritable, expressing high levels of guilt over their actions, having sleep problems, and not eating well, then it may be a good idea to reach out to a mental health practitioner and attain a mental health status exam to address the problem before it becomes a normal way of life and is extended into their adult lives. Further, it may be that no amount of disciplining will help you to “fix” their behavior if the cause is actually a mental illness.

So, please check out the article and be proactive if you have a child or know of a parent with a child who could benefit from having this information in hand.

Positivity breeds positivity people!
