Letting go of Anger

Is it just me or does it feel like little annoyances seem to have the biggest affect on you. For instance, when you accidentally hit your head on something hard, you may get a little frustrated but you usually move on even if your head is still hurting. On the other hand, when you have a little hang nail, that usually seems to get you more worked up, even though the pain isn’t nearly as intense as the pain from when you hit your head. The same rings true for non physical annoyances. Your boss might have just told you that your latest project wasn’t the greatest and that you have to rework it so that it’s up to a higher standard, but after that initial comment you’ll probably be able to just move on with the rest of your day as normal. On the other hand, if someone cuts you off on the way to work, that seems to put you in a bad mood that will stay with you for the rest of the day.

And often times these little annoyances that you experience from day to day end up growing into something more. You start to feel angry, and many times it seems easier for you to hold on to that anger instead of deciding to let it go. I’ll admit that sometimes I keep a hold of that anger because it seems as though it will take too much of an effort for me to try and get over it, but the thing is, it’s better for you to let go of that anger. Not to mention, it’s easier to let go of it when you just have something small that’s worrisome to you. Get rid of it while it’s small because the thing about anger is that when you hold on to it it only continues to grow and grow. Think of your anger like a seed. A seed is very small, but when you feed it it grows. The more sun and water and plant food that you give to it makes it get bigger and stronger and then once it’s big and strong, it’s harder for it to tear down. So when more bothersome things are added on to that initial little bothersome thing, that’s only going to make your anger bigger and bigger and that much harder to get rid of.

But at the same time, just because you happen to be holding on to a lot of anger, doesn’t mean that it’s not possible for you to get rid of it. Even though that plant grows stronger as you continue to feed it, it does still have the potential to weaken if you don’t give it what it needs. If you take away the sun and the water and the plant food, soon enough that once strong plant will wilt and die. The same rings true for the anger you hold on to. Once you let go of one piece of anger, that anger slowly starts to lose the control that it has over you. And with each and every single bit of anger you choose to let go of, you’ll find that it becomes easier and easier to make the decision to let go of the rest of that anger that you’re still holding on to. And although you may think that holding on to anger is the easier route, you will soon find out that when you let go of it, you will become happier for it. Holding on to anger hurts you the most, so when you let go of that anger you’re holding on to you start to feel a lot better. Anger is a heavy load to carry, so let go of it and see how much lighter you’ll actually feel.

You see, when you hold on to anger, you prevent yourself from seeing all the good things that take place in your life. A narrow field of vision only allows you to see very few things, so when your field of vision only houses anger that is all that you’re going to see. However, when you decide to stop focusing only on anger, your field of vision becomes less narrow and you can start to see the other wonderful things that exist outside of your anger.

Positive thinker there’s so much good in your life to be thankful for that you should never let the little things take away from your joy.

So let go of that extra weight.

Stop watering your seed of anger.

And open your field of vision to let in the goodness in your life.

And always remember, “Don’t let little things break your happiness.”
