Making Sure the Shoe Fits
I love fashion. There’s just something about putting together an outfit that brings me so much joy. I can wake up feeling down, but then my mood can instantly lift the moment that I put on an outfit that I love. And I wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve experienced something like this too. Sometimes putting on a good looking outfit and taking a step in front of the mirror can be enough to get your otherwise uneventful day going off to a great start.
One of my favorite parts about fashion is how sometimes the easiest change in an outfit can take your look to a completely different level. A new hat, a change of earrings, or a blazer can take a seemingly simple outfit and make it into an outfit that you can wear during your night out on the town. And something as simple as a shoe change can turn your look from something casual to something fancy. That’s why shoes are my favorite part of an outfit.
The right shoe can make or break your look, that’s why it’s important that you try on the shoe before you commit to it. If it doesn’t look good with the outfit that you’re wearing then it’s best to move on to your next shoe. But once you’ve chosen the right shoe that goes with the outfit you’re half way there because it’s not just important that the shoe looks good, but it’s also important that the shoe fits (just ask Cinderella). Wearing a shoe that’s too big for you may cause you to drag your feet along the ground for fear of picking up your foot too high which would cause your shoe to fall off of your foot. On the other hand, wearing a shoe that’s too small may cause your feet so much pain that you could barely walk half an inch without grimacing in pain. There’s no point in having a shoe that looks good if it’s going to be a hassle for you to wear. Looking good is great, but wearing a shoe that you can walk around comfortably in is just as important.
When you put on a shoe that’s too big or too small for you, they’re uncomfortable because they’re not right for you. And they’re not right for you because they weren’t made for you. And because they weren’t made for you, you’re never going to be fully comfortable wearing them.
And if you think about it, we’re all like pairs of shoes. There are billions of shoes out there and not one of them are the same. They may look the same from the outside and they may be made from the same mold and the same types of materials and the same types of parts, but the exact parts that are on my shoes can’t be on any other shoe for the mere fact that they can’t be in two places at once. And because of that, no two pair of shoes are exactly the same. The same goes for us. There are billions of people on the planet. Some of us come from the same parts of the world and some of us even look the same, but none of us are exactly the same. I am who I am and you are who you are and that’s part of the beauty of the world. But when you try to be me and when I try to be you, we become like those people who try to walk around in shoes that don’t fit. We see something that we like and so we try to be like that person, even though that person isn’t who we were meant to be. And because we weren’t meant to be like that person, we end up suffering when we try to act like them.
When you try to be like someone other than yourself you have to work hard at it because you’re being someone that you’re not meant to be. Why do you think actors put in so many hours when they’re doing a new role? It’s because being someone else takes a lot of time and effort simply because you’re not acting in the way that comes to you naturally.
When you’re pretending to be someone else, you’re not being a true and authentic version of yourself. But when you become comfortable with who you are positive thinker, it becomes easier for you to navigate through this world. When you accept yourself for who you are and who you were meant to be you’ll know what you want out of life and you’ll be able to do what it takes to get it for the simple fact that you know you’ll be happier for it when you do. And you won’t be doing it because you want to be like someone else. You’ll be doing it because you want to be your truest possible self— the self that’s going to make you happy.
Positive thinker, being someone else is hard…
So why not try being yourself on for size!
