Switching up the Routine

Life can get pretty dull sometimes.  Fairly often we start to find ourselves stuck in the middle of some routine. Our life probably didn’t start off with this routine, but after awhile we started to realize that we were doing the exact same thing everyday over and over and over again. We wake up, get ready for work, get in the car and sit in traffic until we get to work, then we work for eight hours, go to the gym, pick up dinner, wash a load of clothes, and then go to bed and sleep until the routine repeats itself in the morning. For days, or weeks, or moths, or years, we have this routine and we think nothing of it. It’s something that we’re supposed to do. It’s something that we have to do. And we’re okay with it until we hit a point in our lives when the routine becomes too monotonous for us to handle. We think back and try to remember a time when this routine wasn’t so routine. We try and remember when it was new and exciting. And so we start hoping that one day our life won’t be so routine anymore.

And the good news is that your life doesn’t have to be routine!

Do you know what the best way is to get out of a routine that’s too boring…?

Changing something about that routine!

Find something interesting to do that will spice up your routine. Now clearly, there are things about your routine that you can’t get rid of. You’re going to have to always get up and go to work, but other little things throughout your day can be taken away or added to make your day just a tiny bit more enjoyable. For instance, if you do go to the gym after work, maybe try finding a workout class that’s new. If you’ve always wanted to try crossfit then sign up for a class. Or if you’ve always wanted to do hot yoga then go take a class. And if you’ve always wanted to take a pole dancing lesson then go ahead and give it a try. Another thing you could do to switch up your routine would be to change up your dinner. If you always end up getting the same thing everyday, then perhaps you can try experimenting with new foods. Try a new place each day so that you’ll have something to look forward to after getting off of work. Positive thinker, the smallest change can end up making a big difference in how you feel about your daily routine.

And if you’re up for it, try making a big change. If one of the things that you can do away with in your routine is one of the bigger items on your list and you’re willing to get rid of it or change it then do it! Sometimes a little change can do the trick, but other times what you need in your life is some type of big change to bring back some joy. For example, if that thing that’s bringing you down in your routine is work, then change it. Go out there and find a new job or find a way to make your current job enjoyable again. And I know I bring up happiness at work a lot on this blog, but it really is important. You spend most of your waking hours during the week at work, so if you are feeling unhappy or unfulfilled by your work then you should make the change to find something that is going to bring you some joy from it.

Positive thinker it’s time to stop dreaming of a day where life could be more exciting again. It’s time to make that dream a reality! Routines don’t have to be routines for forever, so make a change that’s going to make your life more exciting. Excitement and happiness make life worth living, so if you currently find yourself in a place where you aren’t experiencing these things then it’s definitely time to add something back into your life that will bring those things back to you. If you’re making a small change then go ahead and do it right away. But if you’ve decided that you’re going to work your way up to something big then just keep telling yourself that that change is going to be worth it in the end. It may take some time, but you’ll be happier for it in the end!

So why not change up your routine!

You deserve some excitement in your life!
