Doing What you Love
With all of the stress that we experience in our daily life sometimes it just feels good to unwind after a long day. Work, school, relationship problems, sitting in traffic, and dealing with rude people can really start to take a toll on your general well-being. In my free time I like to watch TV. If I could, I would watch it all day, but unfortunately daily life gets in the way of that so I take what I can get and watch it when I can. Lying down in my bed with my laptop and The ABC App is one of the best parts of my day. Seeing what Meredith and the rest of the gang at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital are up to never gets old. The Fitz-Olivia-Jake triangle keeps me coming back for more Scandal. I can’t wait to see what new case Annalise Keating is taking on. Laughing at Phil Dunphy’s crazy antics has the power to bring me out of my darkest mood. And on Sundays Rick Grimes and Daryl Dixon from AMC’s The Walking Dead teach me how to survive during a zombie apocalypse. The action and drama from all my shows make me never want to give up my guilty pleasure.
Reading also brings me so much joy. There’s nothing like opening up the pages of a brand new book and flip through it as you take in that new book smell. Sitting down and diving into a new world with new characters is always going to be exciting. Seeing what problems they get into and how they overcome those issues will never get old to me.
I also love going to Disneyland. Having a season pass allows me to go back time and time again. There have been many times when I have just headed over to the park after getting off of work because spending a few hours at “The Happiest Place on Earth” is one of the best feelings. Hopping on The Haunted Mansion and getting to ride in the doom buggy and take in all of the happy haunts brings a smile to my face every time. When I head over to California Adventure, I get to step into the magic with The World of Color. And I can feel the stress melt away with each hug that I get from Mickey, Minnie, or any of their friends.
You can’t devote your full attention to things that you have to do if you’re too stressed out. That’s why it’s so important for you to take a break and find an activity to participate in that will allow you to take away some of that stress. For me it’s TV, reading, and Disneyland, but for you it may be something completely different…
If going for a run takes the edge off then go and do that.
If you go out to the club with friends and you’re able to unwind by doing that then go for it.
If singing to the latest Sam Smith song at the top of your lungs allows you to have a little less stress then sing away.
And if spending a day walking around at a museum and broadening your mind brings you some joy then head over to one ASAP.
As long as your activity isn’t hurting anyone then go for it!
Positive thinker, you have to remember to take a break every now and again. Yes you have to deal with your daily responsibilities, but if you never take the time to blow off some steam then the stress that you get that is associated with those obligations are only going to become more burdensome. They’re going to continue to add up until one day you can’t handle it anymore and you finally snap. You don’t want to have to get to this point because it’s not a very pleasant place to be, so why not try doing something that will stop you from ever getting there.
Think of your favorite way to unwind, and whenever you start feeling stressed out, do it. No one should be stressed all of the time, so if you find a way to stop that from happening then you should definitely do it.
