Not Being the Victim

Do you ever look at your life and wonder why everything seems to go wrong. It’s like you’re stuck in a horrible nightmare that you can’t wake up from. It’s a constant loop and every time you think you’ve gotten to the end of it, it just restarts and the torture begins all over again. Everyone around you is doing well and succeeding in life, but it seems like no matter how hard you try, you can’t seem to catch a break. You can put in all of the effort in the world and still end up in the exact same horrible position that you were in when you started. I know this feeling all too well.

Whenever I log onto Facebook or Instagram I see a bunch of happy people. It seems like people are getting engaged and married every other day. People are having babies. They’re moving into big fancy houses. They have careers that they like. And meanwhile there are times when I feel like I am the least productive person on the face of the earth even though I’ve been working from sun up until sun down. I see their smiling faces and how they’re loving life and I wonder why my life can’t look like that. And it’s not like I’m not actively trying to make it better. Each and every day I wake up and engage in activities that I believe will make my life better. It just seems as though nothing ever works. Everyone else around me has gotten what they want but me, and when I see this, sometimes I just want to give up. I start thinking, “If it hasn’t happened for me yet, then will it ever happen?” Thoughts like, “What’s the point of trying if I’m going to keep failing,” start to wander across my brain. But the thing is, if I do decide to give in to these thoughts, then my life never will become better. If I just give up and stop trying then that’s a sure fire way to keep myself in the same exact unhappy position that I can’t seem to get out of.

The truth of the matter is that some things come a little bit easier to other people. They were lucky enough to find a way to get what they wanted, and if I want happiness in my life then I have to be determined to get that too. I may have to work a little bit harder, but if I truly want a better life then I have to keep on fighting for it, no matter how long it takes. And you have to do the same thing too.

Even though there are some people out there who have been lucky enough to come out on top all the time without very much effort, there are people out there who had to work hard to get to where they are today. And use these people as your inspiration. They didn’t give up when things got too tough for them. There were probably many times in their life when they wanted to. When they were at their lowest they just wanted to throw in the towel. They knew that it would be easier to do this, but they also knew that the benefits of not giving up outweighed the momentary relief they would get from not having to suffer to reach their dream. They knew that it would be a rough road ahead if they continued to keep on moving towards that goal that they wanted for themselves, but that was a pain that they were willing to experience.

Positive thinker, you can’t just roll over when things don’t go your way. You have to keep fighting until you get what you want. When you truly desire something then you have to be willing to put in the work to get it. Yes, it would be great if it was easy to get that thing, but that’s not how life works all the time. You have to be determined. You have to be resilient. And you have to want what you want bad enough to keep pushing through all of the difficult times that you are bound to experience. Don’t give up positive thinker. You’re a survivor, and you’re going to get through this!
